I decided I should write a post on different words we hear in Australia pretty often.

Barbie: barbeque
Biscuit: cookie
Bloke: guy
Boot: trunk of car
Bonnet: hood of car
Bottle shop: liquor store
Brekkie: breakfast
Capsicum: bell pepper
Chemist: pharmacist
Chips: fries
Chook: chicken
Dodgy: sketchy
Drink driving: driving under the influence
Esky: cooler
Fair go: to have an equal opportunity
G'day: hello
To give it a go: give it a try
How ya goin?: how are you
Good onya: good job
Grog: beer
To hire: to rent
Keen: enthusiastic
Lollies: candies
Kiwi: new zealander
Mate: friend
Mobile: cell phone
Mozzie: mosquito
No worries: usually said after you say thank you
Petrol: gasoline
Pokies: poker machines
PowerPoint: power outlet
Tomato sauce: ketchup
Serviette: napkin
Swimmers: swimsuit
Sunnies: sunglasses
Takeaway: food to go
Tea: sometimes means an evening meal
Torch: flashlight
Uni: university
Zed: the letter Z in the alphabet

Other differences:
-driving on the left side of the road
-steering wheel on the right side of car
-fashion
-everything more expensive but they also make a lot more
-light switches
-toilets do not flush "around" but moreso flush towards the back of the toilet
-toilets have two buttons: a small flush and a big flush depending on how much water you need
-outlets: not only the plugs but they all have switches to turn the outlets off right next to them
-crosswalks: not even going to try to explain as it still makes no sense to me
-a lot more gas stoves than electric
-lots of mullets

I may contribute more later but this is what I've noticed a lot so far!
